About the Wine: This 2010 Amici Cellars Spring Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon is a fresh, elegant expression of its famous appellation. The vineyard source for this wine sits on the eastern side of the Mayacamas at an elevation of approximately 1500 feet. The combination of morning sun and evenings cooled by mountain air allowed the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly without major heat spikes. These conditions produced an elegant, balanced wine with spicy aromas and Spring Mountain’s signature dark red fruit and graceful tannins, highlighted by fresh acidity. Appellation Notes: The Spring Mountain appellation lies above the town of St. Helena on the eastern slopes of the Mayacamas Mountains that separate Napa Valley from Sonoma Valley. The area is defined by small vineyards, often hand-tilled on terraces and sloping meadows, and wineries hidden from view among steep winding roads. Over the years, despite its limited space and remoteness, the Spring Mountain appellation has produced an abundance of wines acclaimed worldwide for an unmistakable profile. Unlike other mountain appellations, these wines have an intense flavor that leans more to dark red fruit than black, with an earthy minerality and unusually silky, balanced tannins. 2010 Vintage: The relatively cool growing season began with excellent amounts of winter rainfall to replenish the vines and no frost damage in the vineyards. Occasional heat spikes in late summer and early fall encouraged ripening and higher sugar levels. Cooler than average temperatures returned again in early September, but gave way to a welcome warm and consistent "Indian Summer" that was just the ticket, bringing good flavor and color development across the board. A late harvest, which is typical on Spring Mountain, allowed the grapes extra hang time, increasing ripeness and deepen-ing color and flavor complexity of the finished wine. Winemaker Notes: Richly aromatic, this wine shows initial aromas of cinnamon and spice leading to layers of dark red fruit. On the palate, the wine is structured and complex, with a core of ripe plums, black cherry and sweet raspberries framed by fine tannins and balanced acidity.

Vintage The 2014 vintage was a vintner’s dream. A dry winter with unseasonably warm temperatures prompted an early bud break, leading to one of the earliest harvests on record. Moderate weather throughout the spring and summer allowed the vines to achieve a good set. Dry conditions led to low vigor vines and small, abundant berries, creating very concentrated fruit that ripened with the warm fall days. With lovely autumn weather, harvest proceeded at a steady pace. Vineyards Our estate vineyard blocks are named after Cliff’s favorite rock songs. The name of this blend is derived from Grateful Dead’s "Scarlet Begonias" in our Twin Peaks vineyard and from Cream’s "Sunshine of Your Love" in our Poetry vineyard. The Cabernet Sauvignon in “Sunshine of Your Love” is planted in shallow volcanic soil and farmed to low yields, contributing concentration and classic Stags Leap character to the backbone of the blend. “Scarlet Begonias” is a small block of Petit Verdot that provides depth, structure, and a luxurious perfume of floral and spice notes. Winemaking In the cool darkness of night, grapes were hand-picked into twenty-five pound bins to minimize crushing. By early morning, the grapes were subjected to rigorous selection by our three-tiered sorting process which includes our cutting edge optical sorter, and a slow, individual berry hand sort. The fruit was gently gravity-delivered to small tanks by our unique crane system which kept the berries intact. Cold soaks lasted from five to eight days, and fermentations were managed through a combination of pump overs and délestage. Extended maceration of up to six weeks ensured exceptional extraction and fine-tuning of tannin profiles. This wine underwent eighteen months of élevage in French oak barrels, 83% of which were new. Winemaker Notes Scarlet Love shows off the depth and quality of the terroir in our little section of Stags Leap District. Aromas of Luxardo cherry, blackberry, and black licorice soar from glass. Beautifully integrated and expressive, the bouquet is complex with layers of crushed rock minerality, dark chocolate, and sweet ripe fig. The cashmere-like tannins caress the palate and linger for a long epic finish. This is our 3rd release of the Patriarch Cabernet Sauvignon. This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon is made with fruit from the best rows of vines on Rich and Leslie Frank's hillside estate vineyard in Rutherford. This limited-production wine is only available for purchase at the tasting room and through the wine club. Born to immigrant parents from Lithuania, Hy enlisted in the United States Army at the height of World War II, leaving behind his wife and 10-month-old son. Hy was deployed to Normandy and landed on Omaha Beach four days after D-Day. He drove support vehicles for the First Army and General George S. Patton's Third Army as the troops moved from town to town liberating the French. At the end of the war, Hy returned to his family in Brooklyn, New York and founded Heide Meat Company, which he operated successfully for 30 years, providing the means to send his first son, Rich Frank, to university. Rich later developed an incredibly successful career in entertainment, thanks in great part to his father's dedication, values and hard work. It all started with the purchase of a classic Tudor home in Napa Valley’s Rutherford AVA in 1990. Rich Frank, then President of Disney Studios, had developed a sophisticated palate through his travels around the world in the entertainment business, and coming to Napa to relax each weekend was a dream-come-true, and a retreat from Hollywood’s hustle and bustle. The fruit growing on the 107-acre hillside vineyard property, Winston Hill, was initially sold to neighboring producers. Then, in 1992, the old Hanns Kornell Champagne Cellars winery was being sold by the bank. Rich’s winemaking friends urged him to keep his day job in Hollywood, but he decided to make a low bid on the property just to see what would ensue. The next day, he was a winery owner, and the first thing he did was analyze the business. Ever since then, Frank Family has grown in a gradual and steady pace, mostly driven by vineyard purchases and demand. Today they own over 380 acres of estate vineyards the Napa Valley—most of which is in Rutherford. The winery is owned and managed by Rich Frank, along with his wife Leslie. Winemaker Todd Graff has been at the helm of winemaking at Frank Family Vineyards since 2003, and has played an essential role in Frank Family’s steady growth over the last thirteen vintages. Graff directed the construction of Frank Family’s state-of-the-art winery in 2008, worked closely with Rich Frank on the acquisition of the historic Wood Ranch Vineyard in Rutherford in 2012, and in 2015 helped Frank Family receive “Napa Green” certification for both land and winery. Winston Hill is located on Rich Frank’s 107-acre estate, on the east side of the Napa Valley along the Vaca Mountain range. The soil consists of well-drained, volcanic deposits and sandstone. Due to its southwest exposure, Winston Hill receives some of the longest hours of sunshine in the valley. Typical warm summer days give way to cool nights with soft mountain breezes. The vineyard has an average rainfall of 24-36 inches per year. Approximately 20 acres of vines were planted or replanted on Winston Hill starting in 1991. The total planted acreage is approximately 35 acres. Cabernet Sauvignon is the primary variety, along with small amounts of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petite Verdot and Sangiovese. Through site specific vineyard management, several clonal selections are matched with the appropriate rootstocks, specifically 110R, 420A and 3309. Extensive hand labor balances the vine canopy and maintains yields to produce rich and concentrated wines.

Made in the Blanc de Blancs style, focused on the Chardonnay grape, the 2015 Schwarze Brut Napa Carneros showcases a single vineyard from the small bay influenced Carneros AVA in southern Napa County. Lying 5-10 miles inland from the cool San Pablo Bay, Carneros welcomes cool temperatures and a slow cloud burn-off throughout the growing season. These climatic conditions allow for excellent flavor development and acid retention in the grapes. From the Schwarze Vineyard Chardonnay blocks bordering the east side of Carneros Creek just north of Las Amigas Road, this bottling celebrates our long-standing partnership with the David Schwarze family. Schwarze Vineyard is located on the north side of Las Amigas Road, in the southern end of the Napa Carneros AVA. The dark loamy soils along the Carneros Creek are just north of the San Pablo Bay, providing the vines with a surplus of nutrients and water with which to grow. Intense flavors and gripping acidic structure are found in the grapes that are harvested from these vines. Consistently producing some of our very best Chardonnay grapes, we are pleased to have worked with the Schwarze family for over 28 years. We harvested our first fruit from Carneros back in 1985, and since starting in 1998 have consistently produced a sparkling wine focused solely from the fruit grown in this viticultural appellation. The 2015 year delivered California vintners a stellar vintage. A mild winter led to an early bud break, followed by a protracted bloom during an unseasonably cooler spring, which contributed to smaller grape clusters and variable crop size. A steady and moderate weather pattern during ripening allowed for gradual maturity within the grapes and exceptional quality upon harvest. With almost four years of aging en tirage, this vibrant and complex wine combines a rich texture with excellent drive on the palate. This bright, crisp sparkler will age beautifully, evolving for 20+ years to come with attractive caramelized, nutty and toasted flavor attributes.

The Variety Petite Sirah is a variety that is very near and dear to us brothers originally because of our Father's enthusiasm for the grape. As an avid home winemaker he stacked up many Blue Ribbons and even a Best of Show gold award at the California State Fair back in the 80's for his homemade Petite Sirah. We too fell in love with the dark, rich and big wines we could produce from the variety, and hence the Garagiste Petite Sirah became commercial for Buoncristiani in 2003. It is also the backbone variety of the Vintage Port wines under the Gemella label, and currently a new program of Buoncristiani Vintage Port aging in the caves! The Vineyard Our 2016 Petite Sirah is sourced from stressed vines planted in volcanic soils in a small block of Northern Calistoga. Following in the footsteps of their Italian ancestors who had planted Mourvèdre and other mixed black varieties over a hundred years ago, the Risi family of Calistoga re-planted Petite Sirah right next to their home. Our winemaker Jay has a great relationship with owners Ron and Jan, as well as with Vineyard manager Tony Mitchell and together they coax these small, tight, black, super-stressed bunches to extreme ripeness and optimum levels of concentrated phenolics and flavors. The Profile The resulting wine can be described as very inky deep in color with aromas and flavors of blackberry, boysenberry, baker's chocolate, black pepper. The wine has a blockbuster mid palate, unctuous mouth-coating tannins, and a purple haze velvety finish. It has become know as an All Star standout in the Garagiste lineup; big, bold and very memorable. VINTAGE: The 2019 growing season was fairly cool and steady until about mid-August, when a nice long heat wave brought just the “kick in the pants” the grapes needed to start ripening. After that initial heat, the weather turned variable with long, mild stretches punctuated with intense but brief heat spells. As an example, we had a high of 102° on a Wednesday followed by a high of 72° on a Sunday — a 30° swing in 5 days! Quality is excellent again, with great flavor development and good acid balance, all at lower sugars than we normally see. HARVEST: We brought in our first Sauvignon Blanc on September 3, about 10 days later than average. Our Sauvignon Blanc is produced from grapes grown in various microclimates of Napa Valley. The warmer areas give us grapes with melon and citrus characteristics in both aroma and flavor. The cooler areas of Napa Valley provide fruit with a solid, crisp backbone that gives the wine an exciting liveliness and balances the rich creaminess from sur lie aging. The Semillon is grown on the Groth Oakville Estate vineyard and is harvested with the Estate Sauvignon Blanc, contributing roundness and weight to the mouthfeel. WINEMAKING: All of the Estate Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon lots were whole cluster pressed, which gives us juice of incredibly high fruitiness and softness. After pressing and settling, the juice was moved to second fill and neutral oak barrels, concrete egg, and stainless-steel tanks. In these various vessels, the juice underwent a long, cool fermentation, and was allowed to age sur lie for just over three months before the individual components were blended and aged together for an additional three months. Malolactic fermentation was avoided to preserve the fruit character. WINEMAKER TASTING NOTES: This wine is brilliant pale straw in color (like California hillsides in summer) with rich aromas of grilled peach, Tuscan melon, and honey tangerine. Opening clean and fresh, there is a seamless acidity throughout the palate. The mouthfeel is rich and full without being heavy, showing layers of melon, citrus, and tropical fruits along with a subtle savory note with a bright, long, and juicy finish. — Cameron Parry, Director of Winegrowing PAIRING SUGGESTION: The bigger structure of this Estate White wine will accommodate a wide range of dishes but has me thinking of a grilled peach and arugula salad alongside salt dry-brined roast chicken.
