3/18/2026 - Saint Helena, CA - Napa Valley is set to take center stage on a global platform as acclaimed television creators Darren Star (Sex and the City, Emily in Paris) and David Schulner (New Amsterdam) turn their attention to the region for what could be their next breakout hit.
"We’re diving straight into the legacy and romance of Napa Valley, where every great vintage has a unique story to tell,” said Star in a recent Netflix announcement. Schulner added, “With Napa’s beauty and bounty as our setting, we hope the audience never wants to leave.”
In partnership with Netflix, Star and Schulner are developing a new half-hour, single-camera dramedy set in Napa Valley. The series will follow a brilliant female winemaker given a second chance at life, blending wine-country drama, humor and layered character storytelling set against the backdrop of one of the world’s most iconic wine regions.
The project represents a rare opportunity to reach millions of viewers worldwide at a time when the wine industry is evolving and the market is changing. Through the global streaming platform, the series provides a high-profile way to encourage broader interest in wine and invite new audiences to explore and engage with it.
Tracey Pakosta, Netflix Vice President of Comedy Series, US said in the announcement, “We’re thrilled that Darren and David have partnered on this new series which tells the story of romance and redemption set in the beautiful Napa Valley that we believe will connect with audiences around the world.”
With a track record of globally successful, culturally influential series, Star and Schulner bring significant creative credibility and audience reach to the project, signaling strong potential for widespread attention for the wine industry.
Over the past year, Star and Schulner have spent time in Napa Valley becoming familiar with the region and its wine community with Napa Valley Vintners (NVV) helping to facilitate introductions and connections. They have attended industry events including Auction Napa Valley and Premiere Napa Valley, and most recently participated in NVV’s Annual Meeting in February 2026, where they engaged with local vintners and community members.
