2/21/2021 - Saint Helena, CA – The Napa Valley Library Wine Auction culminated with a live-streaming online auction Saturday to enthusiast bidders from all corners of the globe. The auctioneers from Zachys playfully cajoled the nearly 350 wine enthusiasts who tuned in live and brought to life the stories behind the wines during what was the Napa Valley Vintners (NVV) newest auction endeavor.
“We’re overjoyed to have exceeded our fundraising goal, yet the real success of this auction was the far reach and opportunity for the global wine community to discover the depth of remarkable wines made in Napa Valley. Our rich history of winemaking excellence was on display for the world to see and we couldn’t be more thrilled with the results,” said Linda Reiff, President and CEO, Napa Valley Vintners.
The collection of nearly 100 lots drew interest from nearly 500 online bidders from 12 countries. The auction helped to broaden Napa Valley’s reach in emerging and top fine wine markets including Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Japan, United Kingdom, Denmark, Switzerland and Mexico. In the US, a strong showing of bidders from 41 states vied to enhance their cellar collections with rare library vintages and bottlings.
“This auction showcased the caliber of age-worthy wines Napa Valley is known for and demonstrated that collectors around the world believe in the investment value of the Napa Valley name,” said Jeff Zacharia, President, Zachys.
To further the enjoyment of Napa Valley wines and provide an understanding of the vast nuances of the region, the Napa Valley Vintners worked with Antonio Galloni to host five online educational sessions. Nearly 1,000 wine enthusiasts from 28 countries touching every continent on the map joined the live conversations. Recordings of all sessions are available at NapaValleySessions.com and at Vinous.com.
The Napa Valley Library Wine Auction is a completely new endeavor for the NVV, entirely separate from Auction Napa Valley and Premiere Napa Valley. The $933,000 in proceeds from the Library Wine Auction go directly toward NVV’s programs to promote, protect and enhance the Napa Valley appellation. Next up is the Premiere Napa Valley barrel auction for the wine trade taking place June 1-5, and an announcement about the replacement for Auction Napa Valley which will benefit the community is forthcoming this summer.
