4/5/2019 - The Napa Valley Vintners (NVV) announced today it is investing $250,000 to expand the JobCare occupational health program run by Adventist Health St. Helena. The clinic is currently used by over 7,500 employees from Napa County a year and in 2018 had direct referrals from 629 Napa County businesses.
The NVV chose to support the program because clients who use JobCare are at the core of the local economy - either actively employed, seeking employment or who have been injured on the job and need treatment to return to wellness.
With NVV funding for new equipment, technology, software and staff training, JobCare will be able to provide better quality of care for its pateints. This support will also help replace dated equipment and achieve compliance for language translation services.
This grant will also cover a new mobile healthcare unit which will serve more local workers and increase the quality and accessibility of services by bringing care directly to them. The unit will be managed by a dedicated nurse who will provide oversight for testing for diabetes and high cholesterol and will also provide health education pertinent to the populations served.
By extension, the NVV's grant will also support local businesses. Napa County is served by only two occupational health providers, Adventist Health St. Helena’s JobCare Services and Wine Country Occupational Medicine, operated by Dr. Carl Speizer. Without a local alternative many people in the northern part of Napa County would have to travel up to an hour for these services.
Subsequently, due to transportation and financial limitations, many people would simply be not have access for these services and local businesses would face challenges complying with OSHA and departmentally-mandated medical surveillance programs.
“There is a huge demand for occupational health services in Napa County and we are excited that we will be able to serve more people, especially with preventative services and screenings. A focus on prevention and early detection is vital to a healthy community,” said Steven Herber, MD, President and CEO, Adventist Health St. Helena. “We are grateful to the Napa Valley Vintners for awarding this grant and for our long-standing partnership in caring for our community.”
The NVV, Adventist Health St. Helena and the St. Helena Hospital Foundation have a long history of partnership going back to 1981 when the first Auction Napa Valley was held. Since that time the NVV has invested $13.1 million in Auction proceeds to support the Foundation and its programs. The 39th annual Auction Napa Valley is coming up May 31-June 2nd.
