More Than 90 Napa Valley Restaurants Recognized for Outstanding Local Wine Selections

Napa Valley Vintners announces 2017 Wine List Awards recipients at spring membership meeting

4/25/2017 - St. Helena, CA – More than 90 Napa Valley restaurants have been recognized by the Napa Valley Vintners (NVV) nonprofit trade association for having wine lists that highlight local producers. The NVV’s Wine List Awards Program, started in 2013 with just 33 participating restaurants, acknowledges local eateries that feature 50 selections or 50 percent Napa Valley wines on their lists.

The 2017 awards were presented today at the NVV’s spring membership meeting, which featured keynote speaker Chef Charlie Palmer. Palmer is the proprietor of Harvest Table at his Harvest Inn by Charlie Palmer in St. Helena and the soon-to-open Charlie Palmer Steak at Archer Hotel Napa. He spoke about trends in the restaurant industry and the reasons he is investing in the Napa Valley. He also received an NVV Wine List Award for his St. Helena restaurant.

“One of the most significant trends in the restaurant industry today is the transition from simply eating out to the lifestyle of dining,” said Palmer. “The essence of that change started here, at our vineyard tables where we have always been focused on ingredients, always concerned with real flavors in significant combinations that support wine pairings. Featuring local wines is one way we have fostered that transition for our guests.”

When Napa Valley restaurants support local wineries, it helps contribute to the region’s economic vitality. The Napa Valley wine industry and related businesses create 46,000 local jobs and provide an economic impact of more than $13 billion in Napa County.

“We’re fortunate to have such an extensive variety of wonderful restaurants in Napa Valley,” said Meaghan Becker, general manager at Quintessa and 2017 chair of the NVV’s Marketing & Promotions Committee. “Great wine and food naturally go hand in hand and we’re honored and proud that so many restaurants in our community turn to local producers to source their wines. We’re grateful for their support and partnership in making Napa Valley the destination for wine and food lovers from around the world.”
