1/24/2017 - The Napa Valley Vintners (NVV) nonprofit wine trade association announced today that 45 of the lots featured at this year’s Premiere Napa Valley barrel tasting and futures auction will be offered exclusively online to pre-registered licensees anywhere in the world. Bidding for the Premiere Napa Valley Online Auction opens Friday, February 24 at 9 a.m. PST.
Produced by NVV-member winemakers in quantities as small as 60 and never more than 240 bottles, the Premiere Napa Valley portfolio showcases some of Napa Valley’s rarest and highest quality commercially available wines. Descriptions of this year’s 217 unique lot offerings, each one telling a compelling story, can be previewed at premierenapavalley.com. The NVV is offering 45 of these wines solely online to be auctioned as part of the organization’s annual Premiere Napa Valley. The other 172 lots will go on the auction block at the sold-out event taking place at The Culinary Institute of America at Greystone on February 25.
"Sharing Premiere Napa Valley wines with our trade partners from around the world is an inspiration for winemakers in crafting these one-of-a-kind wines," noted Andy Erickson, who along with Annie Favia of Favia Erickson Winegrowers, is the chair of the 2017 Premiere Napa Valley Steering Committee. "The wines for this auction truly represent the spirit of collaboration, creativity and innovation that drives us in the Napa Valley, and knowing that they have such a broad reach makes it even more exciting."
Premiere Napa Valley bidding is open only to licensed members of the wine trade who buy these coveted Napa Valley wines for their top customers and discerning wine collectors. Retailers, restaurateurs, hoteliers, club managers and wholesalers vie for wines that are created for this one occasion, never to be replicated. Each bottle of Premiere Napa Valley wine is hand-labeled, individually-numbered and signed by the winemaker, creating additional cachet to the collectability of these distinctive wines.
For members of the trade not able to attend the sold-out Premiere Napa Valley event, electronic bidding will be open to pre-registered licensees from Friday, February 25 at 9 a.m. PST through Saturday, February 25 at 1 p.m. PST. The deadline for wine trade to register for online bidding is February 22 at 5 p.m. PST. For more information about how members of the wine trade can register for the Premiere Napa Valley Online Auction, visit premierenapavalley.com or call the NVV at 707.963.3388.
The uniqueness of each Premiere Napa Valley wine is composed from many facets of Napa Valley winemaking passions: specific vineyard, block and even grapevine row selections; the expression of particular grape varieties found in varying soil types, elevations and microclimates; the characteristics of Napa Valley’s 16 nested appellations; blends of wine not otherwise available; a particular fermentation or aging protocol; novel collaborations between noted winemakers and more.
