8/15/2008 - St Helena, CA-The Napa Valley Vintners (NVV) non-profit trade association announces that the Napa Valley Wine Educators Academy starts Monday, August 18 and runs though Thursday, August 21, 2008. While based at The Culinary Institute of America at Greystone (CIA), this educate-the-educator program also takes these esteemed professionals to locations throughout Napa Valley for hands-on, practical experience to better prepare them to teach their students. This exciting intensive, one of the association's signature programs, provides tools to effectively teach about the topics of viticulture and winemaking along with the specific attributes of the industry in California's renowned Napa Valley.
The curriculum was designed in conjunction with wine expert and writer Karen MacNeil, author of The Wine Bible and host of PBS's "Wine, Food and Friends with Karen MacNeil," who is also Director of Wine Studies at the CIA, along with a host of expert winemakers, viticulturists and industry leaders. This program teaches professional wine educators about the agricultural and enological practices of Napa Valley, as well as history and culture of the appellation. Attendance in the program is by application from qualified individual who professionally educate about wine.
Attendees will spend time in the classroom, the winery and the vineyard experiencing first hand, or "down and dirty," the processes of growing and crafting world-class wines. Educational and social wine tastings will be showcased each day and provide these educators with rare chances to meet with, taste with and dine with the "movers and shakers" of the wine world in intimate venues.
Napa Valley is one of the most recognized names in the world of wine, yet produces just 4% of California's wine while contributing nearly a third to the economic impact of the state's wine industry. This program explores many of the themes, including wine industry leadership and innovation that account for the Napa Valley's prestige. Linda Reiff, executive director of the NVV said, "This is a fantastic program we have developed to provide tools for wine educators to effectively tell the story of our unique niche in the world of winegrowing. We have a wealth of resources, most importantly our vintners, who along with our extensive research in soil science, geology, hydrology, climate mapping, winemaking and grape growing provide a rare opportunity for these professionals to hone their knowledge of the Napa Valley Appellation."
The intensive is accredited through the Professional Wine Studies Program at the Culinary Institute of America at Greystone in Napa Valley.
