The Napa Valley Vintners Announces the Adoption of American Canyon High School

Kendall Jackson Family Wines to Partner with Napa County's Newest High School

7/2/2009 - The Napa Valley Vintners (NVV) announced that Kendall Jackson Family Wines will partner as a vintner sponsor of American Canyon High School under the auspices of the NVV Adopt-a-School program. NVV vintner representatives met with Napa Valley Unified School District Superintendent John Glaser and the Director of Secondary Education Mark Morrison on June 30 to announce the partnership and take a hard-hat tour of American Canyon High School.

Ed Farver, general manager for Kendall Jackson stated "We're happy to be here in American Canyon and we're especially happy to be adopting American Canyon High School."

The Adopt-a-School program is a collaborative effort between the NVV and the Napa County Office of Education that focuses on having winery members adopt each of the 48 public schools (K-12) in Napa County. Currently, approximately 16,000 of Napa County public school students have been "adopted" through the program. Partnerships between wineries and schools are tailored to meet the needs of the school. NVV Adopt-a-School project leader Deborah Russell Broman from Broman Cellars, stated about the program "In the end, this helps all our kids and the community."

Supporting education and vocational programs for youth is a priority for the NVV and the community. Additionally, in discussions with community leaders and educators, it became clear that local teachers and students need help—especially during these tight budgetary times for schools. Along with NVV's grants to youth development programs and non-profits through Auction Napa Valley proceeds, the Adopt-a-School program is another way for the NVV to support its neighbors.
