6/7/2014 - – St. Helena, CA – The Napa Valley Vintners (NVV) nonprofit wine trade association is reporting another record-breaking year for its Auction Napa Valley fundraiser, raising $18.4 million. The lure of extraordinary wines, locally-sourced cuisine prepared by some of the world’s leading chefs and the scenic beauty of America’s premier wine region have once again helped the NVV raise an unprecedented amount for community health and children’s education nonprofit organizations.
The 50 lots of Napa Valley wines and once-in-a-lifetime experiences sold during today’s Live Auction Celebration at Meadowood Napa Valley generated more than $12.65 million. Yesterday’s Napa Valley Barrel Auction at the recently renovated, historic Charles Krug Winery, set a new record raising $1.7 million. The E-Auction, which closes tomorrow, has already raised $400,000.
“We are thrilled with how things went today and thank the generous bidders, vintners and community members who make Auction Napa Valley possible year after year,” commented David Duncan of Silver Oak and Twomey Cellars, who along with his wife Kary and Jeff and Valerie Gargiulo of Gargiulo Vineyards served as honorary co-chairs of this year’s event. “Our themes of ‘neighbors helping neighbors’ and ‘sweet home Napa Valley’ helped us to achieve these results and we couldn’t be more grateful or proud,” added Jeff Gargiulo when the results were announced.
“Auction Napa Valley allows us to turn three days of the best of Napa Valley into 365 days of wellbeing for our community,” said Russ Weis, 2014 chairman of the NVV Board of Directors and general manager of Silverado Vineyards. “The Duncan and Gargiulo families worked for more than a year to ensure the success of this year’s amazing event and we are grateful for their collaborative spirit, which inspired NVV members to donate their finest Napa Valley wines and breathtaking experiences, which in turn invigorated our bidders to raise their paddles and their generosity to an unprecedented level.”
Today’s Fund-A-Need, where bidders receive no wine or tangible rewards for their bids, raised more than $3.65 million.
The NVV will release complete results and details from the weekend on Sunday afternoon, following the close of the E-Auction. Bidders can still join the fundraising and follow the weekend action through photos, videos and streaming social media posts at auctionnapavalley.org.
