Napa Valley Vintners Announce Tomoko Shirasu Appointed Japan Representative

1/26/2011 - St Helena, CA--The Napa Valley Vintners (NVV)--the non-profit trade association representing 400 wineries in America's renowned Napa Valley-- announce that Tomoko Shirasu (President of VINOSOFIA, CWE by Society of Wine Educator, USA) will represent the wine region in the Japanese market effective immediately. Her goal is to lead the trade association's activities in Japan to promote the Napa Valley appellation, raise awareness of trade, media and consumers, and expand distribution of Napa Valley wines.

"We are delighted to have Ms. Shirasu join our team with her wine knowledge and marketing expertise in Japan," said NVV Board President Kathleen Heitz Myers. "We look forward to continuing to bring Napa Valley wines to this very important, and long-standing export market."

Although Napa Valley wines account for just 4% of all California wines, the economic impact accounts for more than a third of all of California's wine industry on the US economy. For decades, Napa Valley has been leading the world's innovations in viticulture and enology and is globally acknowledged as a premier wine region.

Napa Valley vintners have long been leaders in environmental protection. The Napa Valley Agricultural Preserve was the first of its kind in the US, established in 1968, to set aside land specifically for agriculture. That leadership continues today with groundbreaking programs known as Napa Green Certified Land and Winery.

Napa Green, is the wine industry's most comprehensive grape growing and wine making certification system.

"I feel very proud and excited to represent the Napa Valley Vintners in Japan and to conduct activities to encourage Japanese trade and consumers to better understand the value of Napa Valley and to offer them more opportunities to enjoy wines from Napa Valley," said Tomoko Shirasu.
