Rudd Estate is founded upon a deep respect for the land, love of great wines and the desire to build a multi-generational winery with a legacy of excellence for present and future generations of the Rudd family. From vineyard to glass, Rudd Oakville Estate is driven by the mission to create the finest product the land is capable of producing through meticulous farming and marrying the best in classical winemaking techniques with the most groundbreaking modern practices. Classically-styled and structured, Rudd wines truly embody a sense of place.
Rudd wines include Rudd Oakville Estate Red, Samantha’s Cabernet Sauvignon, Rudd Susan’s Blanc, and Rudd Sauvignon Blanc. The grapes for these wines come from two distinct Rudd vineyards locations.
Rudd Oakville Estate, is nestled in an appellation known for outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux blends. This 56 acre site is planted in Core Stone Volcanic soils. The 40 acres to the North has a slight downhill western exposure, allowing them to receive the focus of the setting sun. The 8 acres located on the South side of Oakville Crossroad contains more clay and sand with an uphill slope and eastern exposure. A line of trees to the west partially filters the rays of the afternoon sun. It is on this estate that we plant for Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Merlot for our Rudd Oakville Estate Red and Samantha’s Cabernet Sauvignon.
A 16-acre Mt. Veeder property at 1600 ft. elevation complements the valley floor estate and is planted to white varietals including Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Sauvignon Gris – all in honor of Leslie’s wife Susan and her love for Sauvignon Blanc.
