Napa Valley Vintners Votes in Record 16 New Members in One Month

Winery membership total of 473 is an all-time high

8/13/2013 - St. Helena, CA-The Napa Valley Vintners (NVV) non-profit trade association announces that its board of directors approved a record 16 new members at its August meeting, bringing the total membership to 473 wineries, an all-time high. NVV membership has more than doubled in the last decade, including significant yearly increases throughout the recent economic recession.

"We are honored to welcome these 16 new members to the NVV and look forward to engaging them in our marketing, community outreach and educational programs," notes Linda Reiff, president and CEO of the NVV. "The strength and value of NVV membership in promoting the Napa Valley appellation comes from the camaraderie that has been the hallmark of the association since its inception in 1944."

Although Napa Valley is one of the smallest wine regions in the world, it has become one of the most well-known, due in large part to its members' efforts to cooperatively promote, protect and enhance the appellation first and their individual wine brands second. Accounting for just 4% of California's wine grape harvest, wine from the Napa Valley makes up 27% of the total value of all California wine sold.

The appellation and its voluntary trade association have been leaders in the industry in numerous categories, including forward-thinking land use initiatives and farming practices like Napa Green Certified Land and Napa Green Certified Winery; unprecedented charitable giving to the local community through Auction Napa Valley; hallmark labeling and consumer protection efforts related to the Napa Valley name; and groundbreaking scientific research studies and subsequent education programs that explain what makes Napa Valley unique in the world of wine.
