The Etruscans were an ancient civilization of people who lived in the modern-day Tuscany area of Italy, thriving from the 9th to the 1st centuries BCE. Their influence on ancient Roman and European culture was profound. The Romans inherited many cultural and artistic traditions from the Etruscans, such as temple design, religious rituals, winemaking, and gathering friends and family for large, outdoor banquets.
Join us for a fascinating look at the Etruscan culture with one of the most knowledgeable experts in the field, Lisa Pieraccini. Lisa is the project director for the Del Chiaro Center for Ancient Italian Studies at UC Berkeley. She will give an informative lecture with visuals, as she highlights the dining and drinking customs of this fascinating culture.
Chef Stefano Masanti will bring the Etruscan banquet table to life by creating a dining experience using many of the same ingredients and techniques used by the ancient Etruscans. This will be a fun and delicious educational experience!
