Mira Winery creates a spectacular array of wines by partnering with established growers in Napa Valley. These growers include top names such as Hyde Vineyards, Stanly Ranch and Schweizer Vineyards. We vinify these grapes to maintain the characteristics of these exceptional geographies from vineyard to bottle, resulting in a unique multi-vineyard portfolio of the finest, highest quality wines.
Mira was born as the result of a challenge made to acclaimed winemaker Gustavo Gonzalez, “Could a Napa Valley winery produce a Syrah in the truest Rhone style, encompassing the quality and complexity to put it in a league with renowned producers such as Auguste Clape?” Gustavo, having been with Robert Mondavi Winery for 17 years before joining Mira, and working all over the world, had already produced a 100-point rated Italian red wine and willingly accepted the challenge under one condition – that he would be able to get the right grapes. As fate would have it, Larry Hyde of Hyde Vineyard, one of the most prestigious grape growers in the Napa Valley, offered Gustavo his acclaimed 877 clone. The result was the 2009 Mira Syrah.
While conventional winemaking has followed the same path for centuries, Gustavo Gonzalez, Tom Kaucic and Jim “Bear” Dyke believe there is an opportunity to be a disruptive winery producing not just a single outstanding varietal, but rather a portfolio of outstanding wines sourced from multiple vineyards. Mira brings the best grapes together to make the best wines. Mira has also applied its innovative philosophy to better understand the elements that impact aging wine, becoming the first American winery to experiment with aging wine in the ocean. The process, known as Aquaoir, continues to show groundbreaking results.
Additionally, we have partnered with, and support, a limited number of fine dining establishments in targeted areas and continue to build a digital community through our website and social media, while also producing specific wines exclusively for our Wine Club members.
Gustavo’s approach to winemaking is an insistence that the best wines come from the best grapes. The winemaker’s role is to simply divine each grape’s qualities by the uniqueness of site and vintage, guiding first the grapes then the wines through their seasons, as naturally as possible, with minimal intervention, and then to the bottle. It is the combination of old world tradition with new world innovation that makes the success of this technique possible.
At Mira we are, of course, inspired by our name and logo. Mira in Latin is the root of “miracle.” In Spanish it means “to look” and in Italian “ to take aim.” Our symbol is Jera, a letter in the ancient runic alphabet that represents the completion of a season or a cycle, and so was used to represent harvest, a good year and prosperity. Enjoying Mira, is an experience that begins with the highest quality wines and includes friends and family, music and fine food. It is these principles that ensure Mira wines to be intellectual, artistic and joyful manifestations of nature at its best, and a wine we’re sure you will enjoy.
Wine clubs are a great way to stay connected to your favorite wineries.
To join Mira Winery's wine club, visit their website or call them at 888.819.4668.
We created our Wine Club for lots of reasons. First and foremost, to guarantee that our most loyal supporters always have exclusive access to the wines they love – including limited production vintages. Secondly, we wanted to create a community where wine lovers can connect with more than just great wine, share stories, adventures and ideas. Our goal is to provide our wonderful Mira customers with one of the best Wine Clubs out there. There is no fee for joining the Wine Club, but there are serious benefits.
