NVV Announces Matching Fund Program to Support Free the Grapes
10/1/1999 - The Napa Valley Vintners board voted recently to establish a matching fund program to support the free-trade advocacy group Free the Grapes.
The NVV will match member donations up to $36,000 for a potential total of at least $72,000 to assist Free the Grapes in ensuring consumer access to fine wines.
"The board applauds the positive efforts and results achieved by this group and is committed to supporting its ongoing work. We are encouraging our member wineries to show their financial support as well," says Tom Shelton, NVV president.
The NVV helped create Free the Grapes in 1998 and donated $50,000 in seed money at that time.
Free the Grapes is also supported by organizations including the American Vintners Association, Coalition for Free Trade in Licensed Beverages, Family Winemakers of California and the Wine Institute.
