Legendary Napa Valley wines to be showcased at London Trade Fair
3/18/2011 - St Helena, CA--Napa Valley Vintners, the non-profit trade association representing 400 member wineries in America's premier winegrowing region will showcase some of its legendary producers' wines at the London International Wine Trade Fair at the generic California Wine Institute stand.
A small place with a big reputation--known the world over as one of the world's most prestigious wine regions, the Napa Valley harvests just 4% of California's wine grapes and is one-eighth the size of Bordeaux. Interestingly the Napa Valley appellation wines account for 34% of the total economic impact of California's wine industry on the US economy, and wine is California's top-valued agricultural product.
Featured at the stand will be varieties from Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, the region's most planted, to Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Petit Syrah, and Merlot. For attendees to explore will be sixty wines overall from 24 wineries including notable producers such as Cain Vineyard and Winery, Cakebread Cellars, Grgich Hills Estate, Heitz Cellars, Honig Vineyard and Winery, Robert Mondavi Winery, Saintsbury, Shafer Vineyards, and Stag's Leap Wine Cellars among other future favourites attendees will discover.
The offerings reflect the length and breadth of the Napa Valley and its 15 recognized sub-appellation known as American Viticultural Areas or AVAs. The uniqueness of the Napa Valley is due in no small part to the 33 different soil series and 100 soil types found in the 30-mile-long (48 kilometer) river valley that's contained between two distinctive mountain ranges that tower up to over 4,000 feet (1323 meters) above the sea-level valley floor. Couple the variety of soils, and the fully defined microclimates within the appellation with the vintner community's commitment to quality and innovation and the wine savvy will know what makes Napa Valley and its wines second to none in the world.
Other secrets to learn about the Napa Valley--95% of its wineries are family owned, 75% produce fewer than 10,000 cases annually (65% of the total produce fewer than 5,000 cases annually). The region is the home of the first-ever agricultural preserve in the US, established in 1968 and has developed the wine industry's most comprehensive and stringent farming program known as Napa Green.
