Napa Valley Vintners Launch Educator's Program in Conjunction with The Culinary Institute of America

4/11/2007 - St Helena, CA--The Napa Valley Vintners (NVV) non-profit trade association announced today that the inaugural Napa Valley Wine Educators Academy will be held August 20-23, 2007 at The Culinary Institute of America at Greystone (CIA) in Napa Valley. This exciting new educate-the-educator program is an intensive on winegrowing and winemaking with specific emphasis on the unique attributes of the wine industry in California's renowned Napa Valley.

Sponsored by the NVV, the curriculum is being designed by wine expert and writer Karen MacNeil, author of The Wine Bible and host of PBS's "Wine, Food and Friends with Karen MacNeil," who is also chairman of Professional Wine Studies at the CIA. This inaugural program will teach professional wine educators about the agricultural and enological practices of Napa Valley, as well as the history and culture of the Valley. The program is expected to be offered on a bi-annual basis.

Though one of the most recognized names in the world of wine, Napa Valley produces just 4% of California's wine, while contributing nearly 25% of the state's wine industry revenue. Peter McCrea, president of the NVV Board of Director said, "This fantastic program will showcase our unique niche in the world of winegrowing while using our wealth of research in soil science, geology, hydrology and climate mapping, distilling it in ways that wine educators can better tell the story of Napa's wine industry to trade and consumers who are hungry for wine education."

For more details on the program, please contact NVV Marketing Manager Susan Duke, at 707.968.4203, or by email at sduke@napavintners.com.
