Napa Valley Brings Annual Celebration of Harvest to San Francisco

8/31/2009 - St Helena, CA--Harvest time could be compared to Mardi Gras, the Super Bowl or the World Series for winemakers--it's the time of year when energy runs high as the vintage's grapes are picked at the peak of perfection and winemakers get their chance to do what they love--make wine! And so, The Napa Valley Vintners (NVV) non-profit trade association representing more than 350 member wineries in the famed Napa Valley will bring the celebration of the annual wine grape harvest, once again, to the City by the Bay for a week-long fest beginning October 12.

San Francisco is integral to Napa Valley's success and the vintners have long shared the spirit of harvest celebration with its residents and visitors--back in the day there were "harvest maidens" dressed in Old World garb who rode cable cars festooned with grapevines. Today, the vintners fan out to tastings and wine events around town, from the Ferry Plaza Market with tastings at its vendor's stands, to a "Battle of the Palates" competition for the city's restaurant and wine retail staff, to in-store tastings at wine shops and winemaker dinners at top restaurants.
