This wine was handcrafted by master blenders and winemakers Jean Hoefliger and Michel Rolland. This blend is comprised of Cabernet Sauvignon 57%, Merlot 33%, Petit Verdot 7% and Cabernet Franc 3%.

Each year we make five cases of Cabernet Sauvignon from the three different Cab vineyards on our hillside property in Calistoga's legendary Jericho Canyon. John and Sharon Harris (partners in Amici) planted the vineyards on their property in 2000. The vineyards have always been organically farmed. At a 4'x4' vine spacing, the three different Cabernet Sauvignon clones (#337, #7 and #15) that go into making this wine produce less than two pounds of grapes per vine. The wine is opaque in color, concentrated with layers of currant, blackberry and mocha flavors and a long rich finish. Stop by and taste!

Our 2006 Granite Hill Cabernet is from our Foss Valley Vineyard located 1,800 feet above the Napa Valley floor in the Atlas Peak AVA. The soil is decomposed granite over solid granite blocks. This rocky soil limits the vine vigor, producing smaller berries and outstanding fruit concentration. This exclusive lot of Granite Hill Cabernet is the best wine produced from this still-developing vineyard. We expect this wine to mature to one of the best Cabernets produced from classic, mountain-grown Napa Valley fruit. Intense blackberry and cassis flavors finish in silky, rich tannins that will age for 15 to 20 years.

Atalon Winery exists to explore the different and often dramatic contours of Napa Valley. Our 2006 "The Peers," was created by an invisible sky bridge over the Napa Valley floor to connect two renowned mountain vineyard sites, Howell Mountain and Mt. Veeder. Formed by intense volcanic activity over five million years ago, both vineyards stand like sentinels, watching over their respective east/west aeries. The Peers features vivid aromas and flavors of mineral (graphite, chalk), sweet tarragon, cranberry, cassis and dark chocolate, which flow generously from the glass. A textural marvel, the wine is lush and densely structured, exhibiting a shape that starts out with a slow ascent, zigzags down to envelop the palate and then rises like a rocket into a long finish.

A blend of 90% Cabernet (clones 4, 6, 337 and 5197) from Rutherford and Petit Verdot (10%) from St. Helena. This wine reflects the talent and imagination of our winemaking team. We began experimenting with small-lot trials with the 2004 vintage, and this 2006 wine benefits by getting some of the best handling there is. All the fruit is carefully hand sorted, some is barrel fermented and some is small-tank fermented. Then they are blended, resulting in wines that are richer than ever before, with great texture, roundness and more color and flavor.

Benessere Vin Santo is a port-style wine made from a single clone of Sangiovese grown on an extremely restrictive rootstock in our estate vineyard. This is the only Sangiovese port-style wine produced in California that we know of, and we selected our favorite of the four barrels of this delicious nectar we produced to create this singular lot. Vin Santo is traditionally served as an after dinner drink. Deep ruby with a slight garnet edge in color, Benessere 2005 Estate Sangiovese Vin Santo is full-bodied, with intense aromas of velvety, opulent fruit on the nose. Concentrated flavors of ripe plums, crushed black currant and dried fruit combine harmoniously with silky tannins and a lingering, balanced finish that fills the mouth. This wine will age well for the next 10 years.

The "Broken Rock Block" represents the best blocks from Broken Rock Vineyard. Named for its remarkably rocky soil, this 48-acre vineyard is Bill Hill’s home ranch. This hillside location, blessed with high drainage and low-fertility soil, consistently produces wines of unusual intensity and concentration. The property, which is currently planted to Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, is located on the eastern ridge of Napa Valley at the foot of Atlas Peak near Soda Canyon. Bill Hill developed this vineyard in a true state-of-the-art fashion: it includes densely planted vines (over 2,000 vines per acre), the best clones grafted onto low-vigor root stock, and northwest to southwest row orientation.
